The Lost Elton John Issue

Every issue of the Rock Around The World newspaper tells a story — but Issue #2 has a story of its own, and it’s still missing a chapter.

A Cover Star, But No Photos

Elton John graced the cover of Issue #2, and RATW’s original page-by-page contents — 16 pages covering Steve Miller Band, Genesis, and more alongside John’s own feature — are fully documented in our archive’s records. But unlike most of the other 18 issues, the physical scanned pages of Issue #2 haven’t yet been located in the archive digitization project currently underway.

What We Know

Elton John’s presence in Rock Around The World wasn’t limited to that one issue. He turned up again in Issue #16’s “Manhattan Madness” column, mentioned alongside Rod Stewart — a small but real trace of his ongoing connection to the publication even after his own cover issue.

Help Complete the Archive

If you have an original physical copy of RATW Issue #2 — the Elton John issue, published in the mid-1970s — the archive project would love to hear from you. Every issue recovered and scanned adds another piece to the complete historical record of Rock Around The World’s five-year run.

Browse what’s currently documented about Issue #2, and every other issue in the collection, at the RATW Newspaper Archive.

Shop official Rock Around The World merchandise at the RATW Store, or explore more of the archive at rockaroundtheworld.com.

Rock Around The World aired weekly on more than 160 radio stations coast-to-coast from 1974 to 1980, pairing syndicated radio programming with a companion print newspaper.
