Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue, As RATW Told It

In the spring of 1976, Rock Around The World devoted an entire two-part broadcast to one of the most legendary tours in rock history: Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue.

Two Weeks, One Story

The story was big enough that RATW couldn’t fit it into a single hour. Show #90 (April 25, 1976) carried Part 1, and the following week’s Show #91 (May 2, 1976) completed the coverage with Part 2 — a rare two-episode arc that gave RATW’s national audience an extended look at the sprawling, unpredictable traveling tour that had become one of the defining rock stories of the mid-1970s.

A Newspaper Footnote

Dylan’s presence extended into RATW’s print coverage as well — Issue #15’s “RATW Press Conference” column referenced Dylan alongside the Sex Pistols, capturing a moment when old-guard rock royalty and the emerging punk movement were both making news at once.

The full two-part broadcast breakdown, along with Dylan’s other RATW appearances, is cataloged in the Rock Around The World Artist Archive.

Rock Around The World aired weekly on more than 160 radio stations coast-to-coast from 1974 to 1980, pairing syndicated radio programming with a companion print newspaper.
