Rod Stewart: The Face of Issue #3
By early 1977, Rod Stewart had become one of rock’s most recognizable frontmen — and Rock Around The World gave him the full treatment, putting him on the cover of Issue #3 and dedicating multiple pages to his career at a pivotal commercial peak.
“The Luck of Ol’ Silver Pants”
Issue #3’s cover story on Stewart ran across two full pages, continued from page 10 straight through to page 11 — enough space for RATW’s writers to dig deep into a career that had taken Stewart from The Faces to global solo stardom. He was memorable enough to earn a second write-up later, in Issue #18, under the unmistakable headline “Rod Stewart: The Luck Of Ol’ Silver Pants.”
A Recurring Presence
Stewart’s name kept surfacing across the RATW newspaper’s run — mentioned in Issue #15’s “Manhattan Madness” column alongside Keith Richards, and again in Issue #16 alongside a young Elton John. Few artists appeared across as many separate issues of the newspaper.
On the Radio Too
Stewart made two RATW broadcast appearances: first as part of a multi-artist bill on Show #34 (March 30, 1975) alongside Spencer Davis and The Animals, then in a dedicated solo interview segment on Show #100 (July 4, 1976) — a fitting milestone broadcast for one of RATW’s centennial-numbered shows.
